[This is the twenty-third of a series of posts featuring a saint, mystic, or writer to include some of their thoughts on prayer as well as a prayer written by or ascribed to him or her. Today is this saint’s Feast. For more about him, visit the Saint of the Day blog on the right column of this blog.]
Let us abandon everything to the merciful providence of God.
If your desire and aim is to reach the destination of the path and home of true happiness, of grace and glory, by a straight and safe way then earnestly apply your mind to seek constant purity of heart, clarity of mind and calm of the senses. Gather up your heart’s desire and fix it continually on the Lord God above.
The greater and more persistent your confidence in God,
the more abundantly you will receive all that you ask.
A Prayer by Saint Albert the Great
In Celebration Of God’s Perfections
We pray to You, O Lord,
who are the surpeme Truth,
and all truth is from you.
We beseech You, O Lord,
who are the highest Wisdom,
and all the wise depend on You for their wisdom.
You are the supreme Joy,
and all who are happy owe it to You.
You are the Light of minds,
and all receive their understanding from You.
We love, we love You above all.
We seek You, we follow You,
and we are ready to serve You.
We desire to dwell under Your power
for You are the King of all. Amen.
